Front Desk Volunteer - Cromer, Lane Cove OR Waverton
Position Purpose
Front Desk Volunteers are the welcoming face of The Sydney Library of Things, helping members borrow and return items. They open and close the branch, manage loans using our software, prepare reserved items, and ensure everything runs smoothly - creating a friendly, engaging experience that celebrates sharing, sustainability, and community connection. You’ll always be on duty with another volunteer. You can choose any one of our branches – Cromer or Waverton (Saturday mornings) or Lane Cove (Thursday night).

Key Responsibilities
• Be the friendly face of The Sydney Library of Things - helping members borrow and return all sorts of wonderful “things” at one of our branches (8- 10 shifts a year).
• Open the branch for your shift – check the phone for messages and follow up if needed, log into the branch computer to see what’s being borrowed or returned that day.
• Find any reserved items, make sure they’re clean, working, and ready for their next adventure.
• Use our specialised software to check items in and out. (When items come back, check they’re clean and working.)
• Welcome members with a smile - chat about what they’re borrowing and share the joy of our Library with anyone who pops by.
• At the end of your shift, close up, switch off, lock up, and leave everything ready for the next volunteer.
Skills & Experience Needed
• Friendly, welcoming manner and good communication skills.
• Comfortable using computers and learning simple online systems.
• Reliable and organised, with attention to detail.
• Enjoys helping people and being part of a community-focused team.
