Volunteer Opportunity: Letter Writing Companion at HammondCare Darlinghurst

We’re looking for a kind-hearted volunteer to spend some quiet, meaningful time with one of our residents — a soft-spoken, friendly gentleman who has recently reconnected with his family through handwritten letters.
Your role? Simply sit with him as he reads his personal letters, chat about the news or the weather (his favourite topics), and help him write thoughtful replies. It’s a gentle, rewarding way to support his renewed family connection and give him the confidence to express himself.
This opportunity would suit someone with patience, a warm presence, and an interest in conversation. Visits are fortnightly, with flexible days and times to suit your schedule.
A little time, a listening ear, and a steady pen can go a long way.
Your impact
Volunteering as a social visitor can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help older people feel less isolated. Your visits will bring great joy to residents.
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme is funded by the Australian Government and is established to promote links between elderly people and volunteers in their local community.
HammondCare
