Position Title: Media Assistant Volunteer Location: Flexible / Remote Reports To: DDEC Coordinator / Communications Lead Time Commitment:
1 hour Monday mornings for team meetings
2 hours Tuesday afternoons, fortnightly, for media coordination
Additional hours flexible, work can be completed online
Purpose of the Role
The Media Assistant Volunteer will support DDEC’s communications team by identifying media opportunities, drafting content, and managing media relationships to amplify the organisation’s campaigns, events, and advocacy initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with an interest in environmental issues, communications, or media relations, and who enjoys working collaboratively to raise public awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor local, regional, and national media to identify issues and stories relevant to DDEC’s campaigns.
Draft media releases, statements, and briefing notes for review by the Coordinator.
Maintain, update, and refine DDEC’s media contact database.
Contact journalists and media outlets to pitch stories, follow up on releases, and build relationships.
Assist with planning media campaigns and scheduling releases.
Participate in fortnightly media coordination meetings and Monday team catch-ups.
Skills and Attributes
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and ability to tailor messaging for different media audiences.
Confidence in contacting media professionals.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Interest in environmental issues, sustainability, and community engagement.
Experience with media databases, CRM systems, or digital communications is an advantage but not required.
