Volunteer Committee Member - Role Description
The role of a Volunteer Committee Member is both important and rewarding. Our Local Committees are powered by passionate individuals dedicated to delivering a fun and inspirational community event, honouring those touched by breast and ovarian cancer while raising funds for life-changing research. Our events are primarily organised by our local Event Managers who are supported by the Volunteer Committee Chair and Members. Each event brings its own unique experience. As a committee member you will bring your unique skills, interests and ideas which will help shape and enrich the event experience. Together with your chair, you will be able to choose from a list of achievable and realistic tasks and responsibilities that you would like to undertake based on your available time. These tasks are discussed and confirmed in early November.
Key Committee Tasks include:
OTD Volunteers o Volunteer recruitment o Source on-the-day supplies and giveaways for volunteers o On-the-day volunteer management (supported by the Event Manager as needed)
Boost Event Participation o Help with local promotion and marketing o Identify local food & beverage suppliers/vendors o Liaise with on-the-day VIPs, Ambassadors and guests o Assist with on-the-day registrations, bib collection or merchandise sales
Create a Fun and Memorable Day o Arrange activities and entertainment for the Kid’s Zone o Book entertainment/ live music for the village and on course o Arrange on-the-day MC/ Race Caller o Arrange a fitness warm-up (where Fernwood is not providing the warm-up) o Source Raffle prizes
Committees meet monthly from November 2025 and fortnightly from April 2026 until Mother’s Day, or as requested by the Committee Chair. Each meeting is approximately one hour long. Meetings are scheduled well in advance and can be attended either in person or online. Between meetings, members work on their nominated tasks requiring a time commitment of 5 to 10 hours per month.
On event day, Committee Members oversee specific areas, assisting the local Event Manager, while engaging and celebrating with the local MDC community.
If this sounds like you, please register your interest here and we will be in touch to discuss this rewarding opportunity further.
