Conference Assistant

Australian Fairy Tale Society

Together with other helpers - Set up the furniture and decorations in the conference venue early on Saturday morning. Pack away the furniture, return the resources to the people who brought them, clean the kitchen, and tidy the space on Sunday night after the conference ends at 6pm. Prepare the food and drinks for lunch, morning and afternoon tea each day. Label food for special dietary requirements. Wash dishes and tidy up after each meal. Keep the shared space tidy and attractive. Direct people where they need to go. Pass on messages as needed. Assist anyone with special needs.

You need to be a cheerful worker, who is willing to wash dishes and plate up food, to set up furniture and decorations, and collect the rubbish, to run messages and distribute resources, to direct people where they need to go, and to enjoy being with a bunch of talkative, creative people, to help them have a pleasant, stress free weekend.

Generally help with all the behind the scenes work that will allow all the people at the conference to have a thoroughly enjoyable time in a place that is clean, attractive, and appealing, where we make things flow smoothly for everyone.
Enjoy yourself! - and help others to enjoy themselves. Discuss with the Conference Steering Committee the process of organising this conference, the satellite events leading up to it, and our Not For Profit Society. Chat with the writers, artists, storytellers, academics, and other enthusiasts aspects of fairy tales. It's not all work!

You don't need any particular experience but we would like you to have an enthusiastic work ethic, and be happy to do the very ordinary work behind the scenes, and to ask if you don't understand instructions. If you are interested in any aspect of event management, or arts management, or community organisations, or are keen on stories (especially fairy tales) or other arts, there will be many opportunities to learn more, while you are contributing to keeping a community arts organisation flourishing. We expect around 60 pax to attend. We are happy to provide an honest reference. After you email we will have phone conversations to discuss the weekend and anything you're curious about the Australian Fairy Tale Society.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
