Painlink Helpline Phone Operator

Chronic Pain Australia’s Painlink Helpline is a national telephone callback service providing peer support and health system navigation to people living with chronic pain, their carers, and professionals. Our trained Peer Guide phone operators deliver this service, drawing on their own lived experience of chronic pain to offer empathy, encouragement, practical self-management information, and referrals to relevant services.
This is a fully remote role, where you will return calls from your own home. A supervisor will be available throughout your shift to provide support and debriefing
We are looking for volunteers who:
Essential:
- Have personal lived experience of chronic pain (3 months or more)
- Hold tertiary qualifications (completed) and/or work experience in counselling, psychology, social work, case work, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of the healthcare system, including how to navigate chronic pain and access support, and the ability to independently research to help callers find the best options for them.
- Have good self-management and self-care strategies for managing your pain
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Can commit to a 4-hour shift on a fixed day each week for at least 12 months
- Hold (or are willing to obtain) a National Criminal Record Check and a Blue Card/Working With Children Check
Desirable:
- Participation in a Pain Management or Chronic Pain Education Program
