The Youth Support Volunteer Mentoring program aims to improve the quality of life of young people living on the Central Coast who are experiencing various challenges and are at risk of disengaging from their education, training, and/or communities. Sometimes young people can feel isolated or alone and having a clear, consistent, empathic, and compassionate role model / mentor can have a positive impact for a young person in achieving their goals and their overall well-being. Please Note: Mentoring takes place at the young person's school and is for one hour weekly during school hours.

As a Youth Support Volunteer you will:-

  • Meet with a young person regularly for the purposes of mentoring and support (full training and support provided)
  • Share skills, interests, and hobbies and assist the young person with goal orientated tasks
  • Assist the young person to feel more connected to their community
  • Assist the young person to identify and explore future pathways
  • Enhance and develop new skills *Have a positive impact and make a difference

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (this is a targeted position)
  • Aged over 21 years old
  • Reliable, compassionate, and non-judgemental
  • Good communication skills
  • Positive role model
  • Interest in / understanding of the needs of young people, especially ATSI youth
  • Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)

Desirable:

  • Experience in working with young people and/or currently undertaking study/education in a related field
