MRSPAG is a prominent non-profit organisation in the Macedon Ranges that combines lived experience with professional expertise to prevent suicide. Our mission involves advocacy, education, and the implementation of evidence-based strategies to promote mental well-being. We are driven by strong community collaboration and volunteer engagement to create a supportive network that addresses mental health challenges and fosters resilience.

About Safe Spaces: Safe Spaces are welcoming drop-in space for individuals in emotional or suicidal distress, offering a compassionate and understanding environment to alleviate distress. Peer workers, who have personal lived experience of suicidal crisis, support guests through shared experiences and mutual understanding. No referrals or appointments are necessary.

Role: Peer Supporter Responsibilities: Provide emotional support and connection to individuals in suicidal crisis based on your own lived experience. Engage in deep listening and allow individuals to share their experiences without judgment.

Requirements: Personal lived experience of suicide, defined as having experienced suicidal ideation, cared for someone in a suicidal crisis, or being bereaved by suicide. Comfort discussing suicide and being present with individuals in distress. Strong listening skills and the ability to provide empathetic support.

Training and Support: Self-paced Volunteer Peer CARE Companion online learning from Roses in the Ocean plus a one-day facilitated online workshop. Ongoing training, support and debriefing opportunities from MRSPAG and Roses in the Ocean.
