Board Member - Chair

Key duties of the Board Chairperson:

  • Moderating board meetings to ensure that they are constructive, efficient and respectful
  • Ensuring appropriate voting processes are in line with organisation’s governance model
  • Creating a purposeful agenda in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
  • Helping to devise and implement a board succession plan
  • Managing any other matters as agreed by the Board

Key duties of all Board members:

  • Involvement in strategy discussions to help improve the organisation and ensure it is working towards achieving its mission
  • Promoting the development of a positive board culture
  • Assisting in future planning and furthering the goals of the organisation
  • Assisting in fundraising strategy and helping promote the organisation externally

Skills and experience:

  • Prior board and governance experience in the not-for-profit sector (specific chairperson experience is advantageous)
  • Strong understanding of risk management
  • Suitable judgement to act within authorisations and delegations
  • Strong decision-making and leadership abilities
  • Effective communication skills - both verbal and written
