Community Outreach Volunteer

Primary Role Purpose: The primary role of the Community Outreach Volunteer is to assist the Program Manager in community outreach campaigning, identifying sustainable projects within New South Wales (NSW), contacting project owners, and encouraging them to participate in the Tidy Towns & Cities Sustainability Awards. The volunteer will play a crucial role in coordinating outreach efforts, conducting desktop research, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of environmental, waste, and sustainability issues in NSW, and effectively communicating with organisations to establish immediate connections.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Community Outreach Campaign Coordination:

Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop and implement community outreach campaigns aimed at identifying sustainable projects across NSW. Assist in organizing and coordinating outreach events, workshops, and meetings to engage with individuals, community groups, and organisations. Help maintain an outreach calendar, track progress, and provide regular updates to the Program Manager.

Desktop Research:

Conduct thorough research on potential sustainable projects, organizations, and initiatives in NSW. Gather relevant information on environmental, waste management, and sustainability practices to enhance outreach efforts and campaign effectiveness. Compile and analyze data to identify suitable candidates for the Tidy Towns & Cities Sustainability Awards.

Understanding of Environmental, Waste, and Sustainability Issues:

Stay up-to-date with current environmental, waste management, and sustainability issues in NSW. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Tidy Towns & Cities program, its objectives, and eligibility criteria. Demonstrate knowledge and awareness while interacting with project owners and promoting the benefits of participating in the awards.

Communication and Relationship Building:

Initiate and maintain contact with project owners, community groups, and relevant organizations to promote the Tidy Towns & Cities program. Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills to convincingly present the benefits and impact of participation. Build immediate connections and establish rapport with individuals and organizations to encourage their active involvement.

Skills and Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to generate immediate connection and build relationships with individuals and organizations. Familiarity with environmental, waste management, and sustainability issues in NSW. Confidence in making phone calls and conducting outreach activities. Passion for environmental conservation and sustainable practices. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office and online research tools.
