Ardoch Ardoch is a national children’s education charity. For over 30 years the Ardoch community have delivered programs that have resulted in incredibly positive impacts on educational outcomes for children and young people in communities experiencing disadvantage. We do this by providing vital learning and well-being resources and activities to schools and students. This dynamic educational volunteer role will see you provide support to students with special needs whilst giving back to your local community. This role will be located at Nelson Park School.

Nelson Park School. Nelson Park School is a Prep to Year 12 Special School for students diagnosed with a mild intellectual disability (IQ between 50 -70). The school has a current enrolment of 300 students and 100 dedicated and passionate staff who implement a wide range of challenging, age appropriate and exciting programs based on the Victorian curriculum. This program is part of the schools Energy Breakthrough program. You will work together with students to design and construct a bicycle and learning about efficient and responsible energy consumptions.

As an Education Volunteer in the Bicycle program you will: You will assist the teacher in the Bicycle program to teach students about the mechanics of bikes and support their learning and help them to build solid relationships. You will be expected to have excellent communication skills and be able to use your initiative to support the classroom learnings.

You will bring • A passion to support students with special needs • ability to support students in their work • Be able to use your initiative to explain concepts in various ways that the student/s can understand • Assist the teacher to deliver high quality learning experiences • Help the teacher to maintain a positive learning environment • Manage behaviours appropriately by following the teachers lead • Collaborate positively with the class teacher • Support the delivery of Ardoch programs that aim to inspire young minds and engage them towards a love of learning

What’s involved? This opportunity involves volunteering for 2 hours a week. You will work with students at the same time and at the same school each week, for a minimum of 6 months. Required Checks: • Clear Police check (Ardoch will complete free of charge) • Working With Children Check • 3 references who can speak confidently to your character
