Environment Centre Engagement - Autumn 2024

About the role

You’ll be connecting the community to nature by ensuring every visitor gets the most out of their experience to the centre. This is the perfect role for a ‘people person’ who appreciates their local nature reserve. Every day is different, but every shift will involve delivering an excellent customer experience, building relationships, and discovering shared meaning through conversation and taking the opportunity to make a person’s experience memorable.

Goals and duties

  • Greet visitors at the door, or information desk.
  • Support all visitors to the environment centre to feel comfortable and included.
  • Provide visitors with information about what they can see and do at the site.
  • Set up and deliver ad hoc activities or components of advertised activities.
  • Bring the centre to life through the delivery of centre tours.
  • Promote upcoming events, activities and facilitate in participation of activities.
  • Keeping the centre and facilities tidy and well stocked.
  • Support the daily running of the centre.
  • Support the delivery of bush kindy and sustainable living.
  • Optionally support environment centre events and school activities.

Shift times

Generally centre engagement volunteers do a weekly or fortnightly shift. Most shifts are 9:30am-12:30pm and days can be flexible depending on your availability and centre needs.

Requirements of the role

  • friendly, approachable and enjoys meeting new people.
  • have an interest in the natural environment and sustainability.
  • keen to learn and share knowledge
  • respectful and works well with others
  • have a working with children blue bard (or blue card exemption). This is free. If you don’t have one, we can advise you on how to obtain one

On the job training is provided as well as organisational and workplace health & safety induction. Personal development days and group training is offered to all environment centre volunteers.
