The aim of the role is to enhance the development of athletes at all levels of ability across the full range of skills and techniques to support them in achieving their goals.

These roles can be based in any metro city across Australia.

Key Responsibilities

You will have responsibility for developing and facilitating a comprehensive coaching program that will engage participants and challenge them to realise their potential. You will do this by:

  • Planning, preparing and delivery of coaching sessions to enhance techniques, skills and fitness
  • whilst providing an enjoyable experience for athletes.
  • Actively monitoring and providing regular feedback regarding athlete progress and development
  • Providing a safe quality experience for all athletes, ensuring equal opportunity for participation
  • Providing a supportive, stimulating environment that encourages athletes to achieve their personal best
  • Building effective working relationships with Club Leadership team, committee members and all relevant stakeholders

Key Tasks

  • Maintain a high level of athlete attendance and engagement
  • Observable and gradual progression in development of athlete skills and technique across the season
  • Positive working relationship with athletes, parents and/or carers reflected in satisfaction survey results
  • Athletes understand the value of fair play and sportsmanship. All athletes are active participants in training and/or competition.
  • Activities are delivered in a safe environment, meeting all relevant WH&S and SOA policies.

Essential Requirements

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Working with Children Check
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Strong planning and time management ability
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity and commitment to the Special Olympics Mission and Vision
  • Ability to be flexible and to improvise when needed
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain enthusiasm and a positive attitude
  • Ability to break down complex skills into manageable tasks
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others
  • An understanding of relevant WH&S requirements and the ability to maintain a ‘safety first’ approach, ensuring all activities are within the athletes limits

Desirable Criteria

  • National Police Check
  • Level 1 coaching accreditation or equivilent
  • Has awareness and/or experience understanding the common and different needs of athletes with an intellectual disability and developing appropriate coaching programs
  • Understanding of regulations of sportspecific governing body and Special Olympics standards
