A mentor is an everyday person who likes to help others, especially young people. The simple act of a walk together, a game of basketball, or a hot chocolate and conversation, can provide opportunity for connection, and can make the world of difference to a young person who feels disconnected and unheard. You could be this person, someone who provides opportunity for a young person to be empowered, connected, and to begin creating positive potential in their own life.

As a mentor, you would be involved in befriending and supporting a young person who is in the care of the Department ofCommunities. You would be supporting a young person as a reliable and positive role model; someone who takes the time to build a relationship that encourages growth and resilience in their life. You would need to be able to commit for a minimum of 12 months, though we hope this may last longer if all is going well. Your commitment is based around catching up with a young person every two weeks for two to five hours at a time. The first month we aim for weekly sessions so you can get to know each other.

The Program Coordinator provides initial training and will support you to prepare and begin your mentoring journey. Once engaged, you are provided with regular individual supervision, along with opportunities to attend annual mentor program events throughout the year. Each mentoring journey is individual and will bring different experiences for everyone, so it is essential to know you have space in your life to take this role on and maintain it over time.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
