Social Support for Blind Lady in Nursing Home

Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria is currently seeking a friendly volunteer to accompany a lady who is blind living in a nursing home in South Melbourne on a little walk around the internal gardens and enjoy a chat and cuppa afterwards. This lady also has a mild form of Dementia, so you need to be a patient person with a positive attitude to people living with disability. This will be a 1-2 hour time commitment each week. You must be up to date with your Covid-19 vaccinations.

You will be part of the Walking with Willpower program, which aims to increase fitness, well-being and community involvement for adults who are blind or vision impaired.

As a friendly, volunteer walking buddy you need to be more than 18 years of age.

Recruitment involves an interview, police and referee checks and completion of short training on how to best assist a person who has vision loss whilst out walking.
