We are looking for a kind, caring and compassionate lady to become a Volunteer Visitor and provide friendship to a lonely lady living in Aged Care home in the Birkdale area. An understanding of ageing and dementia (or willingness to learn), would be beneficial for this role.

Visits may include having a cuppa and chat with the resident, doing simple puzzles together (such as sudoku/crosswords) or perhaps playing an easy board game.

Our resident's interests include keeping up to date with current affairs, chatting, looking at the gardens and listening to the birds outside. In her earlier days she enjoyed sewing and working in the garden, she also worked in the home and was a nurse.

Regular fortnightly visits provide the resident with valuable friendship. Through this regular one-to-one visiting great friendships can be formed. These visits from a Volunteer Visitor can help to improve the quality of life of the older person and help them to feel less socially isolated.

Volunteering as a Volunteer Visitor can be a very rewarding experience. By becoming a friend to an older person, you can make a positive difference to their lives as well as your own.
