About the job Who we are: Homely Retreats (HR) is an Australian registered charity founded in Tasmania in 2018. We provide home support and family respite experiences for Tasmanian families affected by cancer. Since founding, Homely Retreats has positively impacted the lives of 370+ Tasmanians and their family’s by creating opportunities for families to take a break from cancer to enjoy quality family time and create precious everlasting memories. Our Vision is to provide tailored complimentary home support services and respite experiences for families affected by cancer. Our Mission is to provide support and respite for families affected by cancer. Our Purpose is to support families with a parent undergoing/ recovering from cancer treatment. Our Values are based around honouring ‘quality family time’ as a valuable entity, especially as a key ingredient for cancer recovery, and nurturing the family unit as a whole. Our ideal candidate: We are looking for an individual who identifies with our values, is passionate about what we do and whose personal contribution will make a real difference to Homely Retreats’ future. Ideally, you will have: A passion for supporting the Homely Retreats team and moving forward in accordance with our Strategic Plan (including input into the development of future planning) An appreciation for the roles and responsibilities of the Board Member and Director and a commitment to best practice in board governance A skill set that will contribute to the breadth of our board experience and expertise, especially in areas of fundraising, marketing, legal or accounting. Good knowledge and/or relevant experience in a not-for-profit and/or commercial organisation Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including a capacity to build relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, and Willingness to become a dedicated Homely Retreats member and approach your own network to help achieve our mission.

Commitment required: This is a volunteer role, and you will be invited to commit for 2 years. As a Board member performs a vital role on the Homely Retreats Board and we are a small volunteer group, the time commitment may be 2-3 hours per week initially until we organise things in this next phase for our organisation. Regular ongoing commitment would be around 4-6 hours per month. Board meetings are currently held 4 times a year, generally in February, May, August and November (combined with the Annual General Meeting). Board meetings are currently held online with a video conference (Zoom).
