Orientation Information Session Assistant - Humanitarian Support Program

Commitment Requested: A commitment of 1 full day (10am to 3pm) orientation session per week for a minimum of 3 months

Location: Sessions delivered from Liverpool and Fairfield. Occasional Youth events occurs in areas of Western Sydney

About the Orientation Team The Humanitarian Settlement Services (HSP) Orientation Program delivers Life Skills workshops to clients that assist in developing critical skills and knowledge that support living independently in Australia. Topics include; Settlement Services, Housing, Health, Money Management, Feeling at Home in Australia, Transport, Family Functioning, Education, Employment and Australian Law.

The Life Skills Program Assistant supports the orientation team with logistical, administrative and event management activities at workshops and events. Volunteers will also assist the team to create a welcoming environment for clients through language support and by participating alongside clients in workshop and event activities

Duties and Responsibilities Encourage welcoming environment for attendees of the the life skills sessions Support attendees to complete session registrations Assist attendees to engage during classes/activities Assist facilitators with set up and pack down of workshop venues Assist clients to complete a self-assessment form Assist in preparing of morning teas and ordering lunches Support the orientation team at workshops and events including the provision of language support as needed

Essential Requirements Completed mandatory checks to register as an SSI Volunteer. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Friendly, proactive and warm in nature Willingness to undertake admin tasks to assist in preparing for information sessions Fluent in Arabic, Dari, Farsi and Tibetan (English only speakers are welcomed to apply) Willingness to travel to various areas of Western Sydney to attend sessions and social events Experience in supporting the delivery of workshops and/or events are welcomed Good computer skills including Microsoft office programs
