Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organisation with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. In Australia, JRS works to uphold the rights of refugees, people who are in the process of seeking asylum, and migrants in situations of vulnerability and aims to support people to empower themselves, to live meaningful and dignified lives while feeling welcomed and connected to a more fair and just community.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Demonstrates the Mission and Values of JRS on a day-to-day basis; compassion, hope, dignity, solidarity, hospitality, justice and participation.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of JRS, in accordance with the Volunteer Manual.
  • Adheres to the JRS Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains confidentiality in relation to clients, staff and volunteer issues.
  • Uses discretion in communicating confidential information and tact in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Fulfils volunteering responsibilities according to the roster.
  • Notifies the Volunteer Coordinator/Manager if unable to work on rostered day.
  • Completes necessary paperwork as required.
  • Takes reasonable care of own safety.
  • Takes reasonable care that conduct does not adversely affect others.
  • Complies with instructions from the organisation.
  • Complies with position description as it relates to health and safety.
  • Participates in volunteer performance review process.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES Employment Communications and Impact Volunteer tasks

  • Strengthen JRS Australia Employment Program communications presence by developing and editing success stories and case studies
  • Interview employment program participants and capture their experiences with JRS Australia.
  • Provide advice and support in capturing impact through case studies.
  • Undertake special tasks on an ad hoc basis, as required and directed by the Employment Coordinator.

Essential:

  • Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email
  • Able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English
  • Able to keep people’s personal data safe

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in social media/marketing/content creation
  • Photography, Graphic Design and/or video editing skills are a huge plus but not required
  • Writing and Reporting Experience a bonus
  • Experience working or volunteering for a non-profit and sector knowledge
