Red Cross has been responding to emergencies and providing humanitarian assistance in Australia since 1914. We are committed to strengthening and extending our emergency aid services to assist all Australians prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. As an Emergency Services volunteer, you’ll help people to be better prepared, better connected to each other and more resilient when emergencies happen.

Tasks

Emergency Services Volunteers help people affected by disaster by: Providing quality, practical and innovative information to help people make informed choices about preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies;

*Providing psycho-social support to people affected by emergencies;

*Registering people so that they can be found by family and friends in an emergency;

*Working in an Emergency Operations Centre or Field Operations team;

*Performing office-based activities to ensure that Red Cross is prepared and equipped to assist people prepare for, respond to or recover from emergency events;

Experience

⁻Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with people from a wide range of backgrounds

⁻An acceptable level of physical and emotional fitness, including the ability to work long shifts in basic conditions and ability to work under stressful conditions, and recognise and manage own limitations and stress

⁻A high degree of empathy when working with those experiencing trauma and stress

⁻Work within operational policies & procedures and maintain confidentiality.

⁻Basic computer skills including the knowledge to use computers, laptops, iPads, smartphones etc. and a commitment to undertake necessary training courses

⁻All volunteers must have an active e-mail account and must be able to use and access their email at regular intervals (including opening of attachments)
