Community Director Board Role
Share the SparkThe Community Director should:
• be a person who is enthusiastic about helping youth and who could promote involvement to others • be a person who can develop good relationships and has a large circle of connections • have a flexible approach and understand how to work with unpaid volunteers and motivate potential youth participants • be a good communicator, using phone, text, email and social media as necessary for ease of communication • be a self-starter, able to work both independently and with the Project Admin as needed
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Recruit volunteers from within the community to build our volunteer library and help find any specific occupations requested by youth mentees • Promote Share the Spark to potential youth participants and help spread the word that Spark exists for them • Work with the Board to develop or review Volunteer and Youth Support resources e.g. Volunteer Handbook, role descriptions, promotion materials • Create events and other opportunities to actively recruit and retain volunteers and youth participants • Work with the Project Admin to support new volunteer induction by organising relevant people to support newcomers into their roles e.g. tee up an existing volunteer to support a new volunteer • Ensure volunteers have a “go to” person in the organisation should they have a concern or problem and a referral list of other resources • Actively recognise volunteers generally and individually through organisation communication and events • Actively recognise youth participants (where practical and approved) through organisation communication and events • Regularly review and report on the status of volunteers and youth at Board meetings and when necessary.
