New Layperson (Male) Members for the UniSA Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC)

UniSA HREC is currently looking for 2 x male laypersons to join the Committee at a voluntary capacity and contribute to the ethical and responsible conduct of human research at UniSA.

As per NHMRC requirements, layperson in this context means someone who is not currently engaged in medical, scientific, legal, or academic work, and who is not affiliated with UniSA. Retirees previously involved in these areas who wish to volunteer are most welcome. An honorarium of $120 will be paid for every meeting attended.

HREC meetings are generally held on Monday mornings nine times each year and mostly held via Zoom videoconferencing. General responsibilities of your commitment include:

  • Responding to meeting requests.
  • Reviewing meeting papers, which are only digitally distributed at least 2 weeks prior to the meeting.
  • Attendance at meetings, which mostly occur via Zoom.
  • Contributing to discussion at meetings with an unbiased and professional approach.
  • Timely and efficient communication with the Human Ethics Secretariat and Chair.
  • Attendance at relevant trainings.
