Carrum Downs location

Who are we?

Better Health Network (BHN) has been formed as a result of the voluntary amalgamation of Central Bayside Community Health Services (CBCHS), Connect Health & Community and Star Health. BHN is a not-for-profit organisation providing a wide range of services to support healthy living, general wellbeing and social connection in our community. The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a government-funded program that matches a volunteer visitor with a lonely or isolated person living in an aged care facility. Volunteers make regular visits, which are purely social, and intend to develop an ongoing friendship and social connectedness.

Why become a CVS Visitor?

Whilst you will be making a significant impact to the wellbeing of an older person, there are so many benefits for you! Volunteers experience greater community connection and an improved sense of wellbeing too!

Whom will you visit?

Jeanne* is living in an aged care facility and is feeling lonely and isolated. Whilst she is still able to communicate in English, it would be beneficial for her to have a French speaking visitor or shares her interests. She is experiencing some hearing impairment and cognitive decline. When she is engaged through music or arts and crafts, her communication deepens and flows more easily.

It would make such a difference to Jeanne’s* wellbeing for her to have a visitor who can share her interests and language and provide some valuable companionship.

What you need to know

• A minimum commitment of 12 months is required • Visits occur once a fortnight or weekly at a time that suits you and your older friend. • All volunteers must be fully vaccinated (including booster) and complete a police check and training prior to commencement.
