Community Palliative Care social Volunteer - Lower North Shore and Greenwich

HammondCare is passionate about improving the quality of life for people in need. Our Community Palliative & Supportive Care Service provides end of life care for patients who wish to remain at home.

We’re looking for caring volunteers to visit palliative care patients in their homes to offer social support for one to two hours each week for 12 months or longer, in The Lower North Shore and Greenwich. These visits may occur between Monday to Friday, generally between the hours of 9am and 4pm, and our Volunteer Coordinator will discuss with the timing with you.

You'll need to be aged 18 years or older, and have your own car transportation. All Health volunteers will need to abide by our immunisation requirements, including HepB, flu and Covid19 vaccinations and a blood serology test.

You may spend time doing the following activities

  • Relate with people in a friendly manner that promotes their self-worth and dignity
  • Watch a movie or go for a leisurely walk
  • Engage in conversation
  • Pet therapy
  • Go out for coffee
  • Play a game
  • Do a craft
  • Spend time in the garden
  • Support people to engage with any activities that are meaningful to them
