Cook - Volunteer for people experiencing homelessness

Community Union Defence League

Community Union Defence League is a not-for-profit organisation. Our priority is to build mutual aid networks around Australia where working people can help other struggling working people by developing essential programs that will help families and individuals being crushed by an unfair system designed for the rich.

CUDL has maintained a weekly street kitchen in Martin Place where food and other necessities have been distributed since 2018. It has grown and currently distributes over 300 meals per week to people in need of solidarity. We look at our work as mutual aid whereby we help each other through the rough patches that so many people experience in a socially and economically unjust society.

Cooks are required to prepare a larger quantity of a budget meal (6-8 litres suggested) and serve it into takeaway containers. These are placed in an insulated box for collection by one of our drivers on Sunday morning (between 11am and 3pm). Takeaway containers and boxes are supplied. Volunteers are expected to observe strict food prep hygiene, including attention to food temperatures.

We are a strictly volunteer, non-profit organisation in which every contribution we receive goes directly to those needing the support. We know our efforts are appreciated but, unfortunately, the need is growing. If you could prepare and donate a casserole, a curry with some rice or whatever else would be suitable for distribution, it would contribute greatly to our work.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
