Honorary Community Members
NSW Bar AssociationPUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT COMMITTEES
The New South Wales Bar Association invites expressions of interest from non-lawyers to serve in an honorary capacity as a community member of one of the Association’s Professional Conduct Committees.
The Committees undertake investigation of complaints made against barristers on behalf of the Bar Council and make recommendations to the Council as to the outcome of those complaints. All members of the Committees are volunteers who offer their skills and expertise for the benefit of the public and the profession. Community members play an important part on the Committees in that they provide a community perspective which contributes to the complaint handling process. There are three community members on each Committee.
The Committees meet in person every three weeks on weekdays at 5pm in the city. There is also the option to attend online but in person attendance is valued and encouraged.
Applications in writing, including a CV and a cover letter outlining your interest in joining the Committee, should be submitted below by the closing date and addressed to: the Director, Professional Conduct.
