Listening Ear is a non-critical, confidential helpline with trained, caring volunteers who offer support, understanding and a friendly ear. We are not counsellors, but we use our life experience, empathy and listening skills to help people in the community who are upset, worried or lonely and just want someone to talk to. Calls are confidential. We do not judge. We do not ask for personal information. We do not promise to solve problems. It is surprising how nice it is to be heard by someone who is prepared to LISTEN.

Only those who live in the Sydney area are eligible to apply for this position as well as those with a number of years life and work experience need apply.

All training is provided. Fortnightly professional development workshops are held alternately on Zoom and at Lindfield. Calls are taken from your own home. Flexible shifts, depending on your own availability, are once a week for 4 Hours, between 9am-9pm (9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm, 5pm-9pm) Training will be conducted on Zoom, dates below.

Orientation and Training for New Volunteers: Orientation is on site at Lindfield Saturday afternoon 2-4pm 16 August, 2025 and the 4 training dates are 9am-12noon Saturday mornings 23 & 30 August and 6 & 13 September 2025. 1-3 Training dates are via Zoom and the last on 13 September is on site at Lindfield..
