The Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) seeks a volunteer librarian to curate and maintain its library of foreign affairs books and periodicals. The librarian will review the current collection, remove outdated materials, identify and acquire new books, and keep track of loans using LibraryThing.

The AIIA is Australia’s longest-existing private research institute on politics and international relations. Its mission is to help Australians know, understand, and engage more in international affairs. The AIIA's National Office, located in Deakin, holds the RG Casey Library. The library aims to support the needs and objectives of the AIIA. The Casey Library is a small, specialised library with holdings in the areas of international affairs and foreign relations. The library is available for reference to all AIIA members and to other interested persons in the community. The library currently holds about 4000 items.

We estimate that this position will require 1-2 hours of volunteer work per week on an ongoing basis. Working during regular business hours preferred, but not required. Some training will be provided.

The AIIA National Office and its library are located on the upper floor of Stephen House and accessible only by stairs. There is ample free parking at the location, and it is easily accessible via the Action Bus network. The volunteer librarian will have access to all facilities and events of the AIIA National Office.
