The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra.

Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra are seeking Orchestra Planning, Operations and Logistics Administrator volunteers to assist the President and Secretary carry out a multitude of essential tasks related to the planning, resourcing, and performance of concerts.

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Organise booking arrangements for venues for concerts and rehearsals
  • Preparations for rehearsals and concerts
  • Hire of musical instrument and transport logistics arrangements
  • Provide advice on the economics of changes to procedures and cost minimisation
  • Maintain Friends of Zelman data base on MailChimp and draft emails to promote concerts
  • Assist in keeping the Orchestra website up to date
  • Assist in loading information about events onto external websites
  • Social media management
  • Participate in and contribute to committee meetings (approximately 5 or 6 meetings each year on Zoom)
  • Maintain and develop relations with suppliers (venues, printing, advertising agents, Boroondara Councillors, and officials) as well as placing orders
  • Assist in making submissions for Government and Council grants and philanthropic grants

Role requirements:

  • A knowledge and appreciation of classical music would be helpful but not essential
  • An enthusiasm to see the Orchestra succeed in satisfying its loyal audiences, sponsors, donors and players
  • A firm but fair approach to negotiating various aspects of the position

This position has the potential for job sharing.

Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra Inc (“Zelman Symphony”) is a Not-for-Profit community Orchestra, typically performing four concerts in Melbourne each year with one concert repeated in a regional town. The orchestra celebrates its 90th Anniversary this year. Most of the players (65 to 80) are volunteers, but the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, the Concertmaster and typically one key player are paid professionals. The President, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee members are volunteers. Zelman Symphony is a registered charity with Donor Gift Recipient status.
