Bilingual (Arabic/ English) Research Assistant

Friends for Good is a national not-for-profit organisation that focuses on loneliness and social isolation. We currently run FriendLine, a free anonymous service for people in the community experiencing loneliness and social isolation. We will be starting a new pilot program in 2023 to run FriendLine in Arabic.
The first stage of the development of this new program is to conduct some community-based research. We will be running focus groups and talking with community organisations to co-design the service. We are seeking a research assistant who can speak and write in both English and Arabic to assist with the research phase of the project. It will start in February 2023 and be approximately 2 months of work (with the potential to work on other research projects after that if interested).
Main tasks include:
- Assisting with marketing focus groups
- Transcribing focus group data (in Arabic)
- Helping to identify key themes from qualitative data
- Assisting with writing a summary of the key findings from the community co-design phase (in English)
- Attending meetings with community organisations (where possible) and taking notes
What we are looking for: ESSENTIAL:
- Great written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Previous research experience/ knowledge (may particularly suit a Psychology/ Social Work student) DESIRABLE:
- Previous experience transcribing and analysing qualitative data
