About us Satellite was established in 2009 to support young people who have a parent or carer with a mental illness. The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System highlighted the support needed to ensure the long-term wellbeing of young people with a family member living with mental health challenges and it named Satellite as an organisation well placed to provide these supports. Since being funded by the Victorian government, Satellite has broadened the scope of their participant cohort to include young people with parents, carers and broader family members (including siblings and extended family) living with mental health challenges. At Satellite, we believe young people are the change-makers of the future and have enormous potential to positively influence and shape the way our society functions. We are committed to amplifying the voices of young people in all that we do and actively include them through our co-creation framework. Roles & Responsibilities As a board member, in addition to adhering to the ACNC Governance Standards, you will have responsibility to: • Attend and actively participate in Satellite board meetings and events; • Work collaboratively with Board members and the Satellite team; • Pro-actively identify, communicate and work to address governance and strategic challenges as we grow; • Promote the work of Satellite through your relevant networks, and • Communicate our mission to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people and their families.

Preferred candidates will also have elevated knowledge in one (if not multiple) of the following areas: • Mental Health o An enhanced understanding of the strengths and challenges faced by those with a lived or living experience of their own mental health challenges or of someone close to them. • Human Resources o Best practice knowledge of employee contracting, performance objective setting, and remuneration. • Allied Health / Direct Clinical Work Experience o Experience in and/or an understanding of the range of services that young people in our cohort may engage with (e.g. community, youth, mental health services, arts) • Enterprise Risk Management o Experience and knowledge of best practice risk identification, management, and monitoring, as well as regulatory compliance oversight. • Creative Expression o Experience and/or knowledge of creative arts organisations, or arts administration/management, and the role of creativity in wellbeing.
What we are looking for Essential: • Pro-active and collaborative approach to problem-solving • Excellent communication skills • An approach to working that is non-judgemental and inclusive • Fund raising and working with a non for profit. • High proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite Preferred: • Prior board experience • Experience in strategy and governance of a rapidly growing organisation.
