SisterWorks does this through providing learning opportunities in a safe environment where Sisters can build their skills and community, and gain both the knowledge and the confidence to seek employment or further study. As an Engagement Coordinator volunteer, you are accountable for registering and welcoming new migrant women, engaging them to programs and utilising tools in place to ascertain their wellbeing and to evaluate their progress.

Study fields:

Community Services, Social Work, Community Development, International Development.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Register new Sisters on the online database
  • Support the Intake process following current procedures and criteria
  • Welcome Sisters, warmly introducing them to our programs
  • Engage with our Sisters to keep them involved with the programs each term
  • Build relationships with the sisters to understand their needs and identify the right programs within SisterWorks that can support them in finding employment
  • Update Sister’s information, skills, assessment in Infoodle
  • Work together with fellow engagement coordinators and engagement leads to make sure new women are engaged and achieving their goals.
  • Coordinate with Sisters about classes and their participation in classes
  • Utilise SisterWorks app on the mobile as a tool to help women.
  • Assisting in running of programs and events to support sisters
  • Support volunteer teachers conduct training programs
  • Assist with administrative tasks and general support as required by the Engagement Lead

Desired experience and qualifications:

  • IT skills in Microsoft Office, ability to learn database and maintain information.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good, observation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Women with lived experience as a migrant, refugee or seeking asylum are encouraged to apply.

Compulsory requirements:

  • Working with Children Check and/or Police Check (if you do not have one, you can apply for one free of cost)
  • Available 1 or 2 days per week
  • Their own laptop they are happy to work on while at SisterWorks

This role is best suited to someone who:

  • Is great with people, loves working within a community focused program and has a passion to support women and empower them to improve their confidence, mental wellbeing, and sense of belonging.
  • Has an ability to work within a person centred and strengths-based manner.
  • Is organised and can follow processes.
  • Has a good command of spoken and written English.
  • Must be comfortable in communicating with our sisters via text, calls, emails, and face-to-face.
  • can work in a dynamic environment and problem-solve challenges with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude.
