Companion Volunteer, Geebung - Residential Aged Care

Wesley Mission Queensland
Logo for Wesley Mission Queensland

Thank you for your interest in registering as a Companion Volunteer with Wesley Mission Queensland at our John Wesley Gardens aged care community.

Our friendly team of Companion Volunteers engage with our residents living in aged care communities through one-to-one visits and activities. These wonderful volunteers enrich the quality of the life of our residents who may feel socially isolated or lonely - whether for social or cultural reasons or due to disability.

As part of our Companion Volunteer Program, we are looking for friendly people who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of our elderly residents by spending an hour each week or fortnight visiting and building friendships

In the role of a Companion Volunteer, you will be able to assist in ensuring residents remain actively engaged and inspired every day. Quality time shared can include having a chat, reading a book, playing cards or board games, working on a hobby together or discussing the local news. You might like to take a walk, dance, sing, grab a cuppa or enjoy some gardening together.

The volunteering hours currently available for this role are Monday to Friday between 9am till 3.30pm. Please still apply if you would like to visit on the weekends as we are currently implementing these hours in our services.

Our aged care communities are places of warmth, smiles and hugs where residents enjoy a wonderful sense of life, fun and friendship. Join our volunteering teams and you will meet so many wonderful people, learn new skills and access other benefits, such as:

  • Supply and pay for any security checks required for the position
  • Access to online and face-to-face wellness advisors
  • Great education opportunities
  • Free Flu Vaccinations
  • Exclusive shopping discounts
  • Invitations to social events
  • Being part of a team that really is making a difference in the lives of residents living in aged care.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations before they are registered in their role.

Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance and Blue Card Combined check prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!
