Overview

This is a senior leadership role heading up the Communications and Marketing Team at Out For Australia, directing and overseeing the team’s strategy and operations. You will work closely with the National Communications Director, Managing Editor and National Media Director to develop, socialise and implement the annual operational Communications and Marketing Strategy, including ensuring a continued focus on strategic goals within the Communications and Marketing Team.

Responsibilities

Communications and Marketing strategy (30%)

Annual Operational Strategy:

  • Plan and develop Out For Australia’s Communications and Marketing operational strategy, as outlined in the annual operational plan.
  • Oversee the strategy’s execution.
  • Oversee the strategy’s evaluation.

Longer term strategy and planning:

  • Support the development and implementation of OFA’s long term vision for Communications and Marketing.
  • Document strategic thinking.

Brand custodianship:

  • Supported by the Managing Editor, ensure OFA’s voice remains consistent, engaging and relevant to our audience.
  • Supported by the Media Director, ensure OFA’s visual brand identity remains consistent, engaging and relevant to our audience.

Manage ongoing risk:

  • Monitor, evaluate and control Communications and Marketing related risks.
  • Act as a primary escalation point for relevant risks.

Oversee Communications and Marketing delivery (20%)

Supported by the Communications and Media Directors, ensure OFA’s marketing activities support OFA’s work across the wider business:

  • These include but are not limited to: in-person and virtual events, including those organised by OFA, and those which OFA participates in (e.g. Pride Parades, Mardi Gras etc); the 30 Under 30 Awards; OFA’s Mentoring Program; tertiary student outreach; thought leadership within the LGBTQIA+ and professional spheres; and grants and fundraising.
  • These include utilising the following channels: advertising, media and public relations, SEO/SEM, social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter), EDM, website and content marketing.

Support efficient ways of working:

  • Oversee the maintenance, development and improvement of effective team processes.
  • Recruit assistance to implement these processes if required.

Media:

  • Supported by the Media Director, manage any external media requests.
  • Act as an approved back-up media spokesperson for the CEO.

Leadership and team management (30%)

Support a strong leadership team (your direct reports):

  • Effectively delegate strategic and operational responsibilities.
  • Hold regular leadership team meetings - eg. weekly/fortnightly stand-ups, monthly retrospective and strategy.
  • 1:on:1 meetings with each direct report - eg. fortnightly per leadership team member.

Team engagement, retention and motivation (supported by your leadership team):

  • Foster a supportive volunteer team culture which promotes positive wellbeing and personal sustainability.
  • Build the skill of your volunteer team, embed a culture of learning and empower your team to take ownership of their work.
  • Oversee regular comms team meetings - eg. monthly showcase.

Team recruitment:

  • Recruit and onboard your leadership team as vacancies arise.
  • Support your leadership team in recruitment for the wider team.

Strategic and organisational responsibilities (10%)

  • Participate in National Executive meetings (every six weeks).
  • Participate in Senior Executive meetings, with the rest of the C-Suite (fortnightly).
  • Weekly communication with the CEO, including fortnightly 1:on:1s in the alternate. week to the C-Suite meetings.
  • Contribute to high-level strategic and organisation planning.

General volunteer expectations (10%)

  • Undertake an OFA volunteer induction and role onboarding.
  • Understand and implement OFA’s strategy, vision and mission.
  • Uphold our volunteer code of conduct and organisational values.
  • Assist with initiatives as required.
