There will be something for everyone to get involved with, from landscaping and earthworks, small engine maintenance, metal fabrication, engineering, spray painting and much much more. The Charity currently operate a portable miniature railway system within the Geelong region on the 1st and 3rd weekends at local events.

The Club also holds regular training days and working bees. Members will be taught a wide range of operational skills from station operations, ticket sales, locomotive operation, track assembly and much more.

There are a number of roles we are looking to fill with new members.

  • Station Operations - on the station assisting the public to board and disembark the trains. This includes a variety of roles including ticket collection, train dispatching, and arrivals supervision (opening the gate to let the passengers off the station safely).

  • Train Guard - After training you will have the opportunity to join our train crew as a guard, responsible for the safety of passengers whilst the train is traveling around the railway.

  • Train Driver- After training you will have the opportunity to progress to a non steam locomotive driver before progressing to a steam locomotive driver after 12 months

  • Signaling- Controlling the passage of the trains is a vital and responsible task to keep the railway running. After you have been qualified as a driver, you may progress to learn how to control our signaling system.

  • Ways & Works - You may request to assist in members home workshops and learn how they maintain and build locomotives and rolling stock. You can also get involved to keep our locomotives and fleet of carriages operating, with no previous experience required.

  • Administration- This includes, Committee of Management, general office tasks, maintenance of IT infrastructure and in-house management software and much more!

There is no limit to our membership base, more hands makes for easier work loads.

Geelong Miniature Railway is currently working with Council to find a permanent home for the project. The Charity has a working engineering workshop at a member’s property in Hamyln Heights.
