During each school holidays, our Education Team runs a School Holiday program for four age groups: 8 to 11 years, 12 to 14 years, 13 to 17 years and 15 to 17 years. We have a variety of session topics including Animals at RSPCA NSW, Animal Enrichment, Animal Health and Animal Training.

Our program is a one-day session run on weekdays as either a half day (9am to 12pm/12.30pm to 3pm) or full day (9am to 3pm) at the Sydney RSPCA NSW facility.

In this role, you will volunteer alongside an Education Officer to facilitate the activities as outlined in the day’s schedule, assist in organisation and set up, communicate with shelter and clinic staff to coordinate activities and be responsible for the welfare of both children and animals.

As a School Holiday Program Volunteer, you will be facilitating an educational and interactive way for children to learn about animal care and welfare in a safe, controlled environment, while following a set program for the day to ensure attendees get a fantastic educational experience.

What this volunteer role looks like:

  • Assisting with the coordination of the RSPCA NSW School Holiday Program

  • Leading groups of children around the shelter for interactive sessions, including with animals or members of the RSPCA NSW team

  • Assist with the set up of the day and providing items for attendees

  • Answering questions from parents or children relating to the program or activities to be carried out during the day

  • Development and implementation of program activities

  • Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines

  • Understand and comply with RSPCA NSW policies and procedures, including the Child Safe Policy and Confidentiality Agreement

What we need from you:

  • At least 18 years old

  • Currently hold or willing to obtain Working With Children Check

  • Experience working with groups of children

  • Previous animal handling experience.
