Social media nature lover

York Branch Wildflower Society of WA

We are looking for a dynamic volunteer to help promote the work of the York Wildflower Society of WA on social media. Members maintain a community native garden in York, grow native plants for sale, and provide plants for streetscaping and vegetating the river banks. We also conduct guided tours of local reserves. Our group, the York Branch of the Wildflower Society of WA, has been active for almost twenty years. Our mission is to encourage an awareness of our beautiful local flora and the benefits of water wise gardens in our hot and dry summer climate.
The bush land garden we have developed in York covers a vacant house block and includes over 400 species of plants native to WA. We also maintain a ‘seed orchard’, which is a strip of land along the Avon River, owned by the Shire of York. We have planted species from which we harvest seed for propagation. We have an office in the York Environmental Discovery Centre in Glebe St which we share with the River Conservation Society, a like-minded organisation. If you can spare 2-4 hrs per week and would enjoy documenting the work of the members of the York Wildflower Society of WA, this could be the gig for you. You would be working alongside our members each Tues morning for 2 hours, either in the Garden or nursery, and each Thurs morning at the Environmental Discovery Centre for another 1-2 hours working on social media. It’s not all work though. During Spring and Summer, we like to do wildflower walks in the local Reserves so that we can see what’s flowering and what might be suitable to propagate – you would be part of that. According to your level of interest we can also train you in propagation techniques and expand your knowledge of the local flora. If you are a self-starter, passionate about flowers, plants, wildlife and growing the wildflower community on social media, we would love to hear from you. We are an inclusive and accessible organisation open to supporting expressions of interest from all. Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and maintenance of a dynamic online brand
  • Grow and increase the York Wildflower Society awareness through various social media.
  • Design, produce and deliver social media content to engage our audience.
  • Assist with online brand engagement strategies
  • Promote events through various online platforms.
  • Keep all social media channels updated and track progress
