Join a passionate team of volunteers assisting people experiencing hard times to get back on their feet through our Emergency Relief program. We are looking for people with excellent customer service skills and who display empathy towards others. Assist us in supporting people experiencing disadvantage in the Geelong region.

We have various roles available from Customer Service, Food Distribution, and consumer support. The role supports us to provide better services for people as we work together to inspire people, enliven communities, and confront injustice.

This role would be ideal for someone who enjoys meeting new people and supporting people experiencing difficulties in our community.

Our Emergency Relief program assists vulnerable members of the community by providing food, material, and financial aid support.

We have various role available including

Customer Service / Reception

The reception/emergency relief team will liaise with various people including consumers that present to the Emergency Relief Centre for support.

Some of the tasks include:

  • Greeting all visitors into the Centre, answering calls, and making appointments as required
  • Assisting support workers and consumers through the process
  • Maintaining the reception
  • administration duties including data entry
  • Keeping a safe and clean environment

Consumer support – Food Pantry

Some of the tasks include:

  • assisting people to choose food items
  • assisting support workers and consumers through the process
  • sorting and shelving of stock
  • packing and distribution of food (fresh, frozen, other) in the food bank
  • Keeping a safe and clean environment

Consumer support – Interviews

This position is to provides support to the staff and community members accessing Emergency Relief by conducting face to face interviews with consumers who are presenting for assistance and help facilitate referrals to other programs and agencies.

Emergency Relief interview volunteers are expected at all times to be non-judgmental in their approach and the ability to respond with empathy to consumers in crisis. Interviews will me completed face to face and over the phone.

We offer opportunities in skill and knowledge development, as well as ongoing support and mentoring. As a Uniting volunteer you’ll be able to access our online learning library with over 200 courses on offer.

Good communications and organisational skills will be critical in the success of this role.
