Do you want to help in Advocating for, Promoting & Rehoming of Retired Race Horses, while working with a dedicated team of volunteers across Queensland? We want to hear from you! We are currently seeking skilled individuals who have experience in helping animals in need, to carry out various voluntary roles including the role of a Events Manager. The Standardbred Association Qld (SAQ) is a not-for-profit association, operating throughout Queensland and staffed exclusively by volunteers.

The Role We are looking for a Events Manager to join our team. The Events Manager is responsible for leading the events team to plan and coordinate success in all our equestrian events run throughout the year and is primarily responsible for the oversight of all operations pertaining to planning and coordinating our Annual Calendar of scheduled equestrian events. This vital position offers the opportunity to provide the Association sustainability and ensures continuity of the important events and services to our members and the broader community. The Events Manager position Role Objectives:  To deliver our core charter to promote the Standardbred as a successful & versatile horse that can excel in many disciplines outside their traditional role of harness racing through shows, events and competitions.  To raise the profile of the Standardbred in all equestrian events.  To provide fair and equal competition in all aspects of equestrian events.  To maximise opportunities for improved life outcomes of Standardbred horses after their racing career.  To create a pathway for participants to develop further in their chosen discipline.  To offer a wide range of equestrian events and experiences to riders of all abilities.  To work to grow participation from grassroots right through to elite levels of competition.  Support an on-going culture of improvement and innovation, focus on efficiency and effectiveness whilst continuing to ensure that members are satisfied.

Responsibilities include:

 Adhere to the mission, vision, and values of the Association.  Administration and management of the Events team.  Plan up to a year in advance, beginning with setting a date for each planned major event including – Dressage, Show Jumping, Hacking & Harness Championships, and Qld Standardbred Track to Hack Series & Finals.  Creating a proposed Calendar of Events for the Year and discuss at Committee Meetings.  Compile and Submit Events Proposal Submission forms to Committee for approval of all Proposed Events.  Consult with Treasurer to obtain budgets for each proposed event and include budget in the Events Proposal (budgets should include any approved grant expenditure).  Regularly review all Event Proposals - ensuring all necessary checklist items are completed or delegated to someone from the events team to ensure timely completion of all tasks. Provides hands-on assistance as necessary.  Conduct event debriefs for all events to determine best practices and opportunities for improvement.  Maintain Current Calendar of Events on the SAQ Website and Facebook, and regularly updating calendar in conjunction with the Webmaster & Social Media Coordinator.  Co-ordination/Delegation of the SAQ Annual State Championships – Dressage, Show Jumping and Hacking and Harness.  Co-ordination/Delegation of the Annual QLD Standardbred Track to Hack Series & Final.   Work in partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, organize and cultivate relationships with the volunteers required to ensure the success of the events.  Work with the Treasurer to help achieve the financial goals of the Association.  Providing regular reporting and insights on Event Management.  Other duties from time to time as required to meet the objectives of the position.

Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge

 Exceptional time management and organisational skills.  Good at multi-tasking and tracking the progress of multiple activities.  Ability to keep accurate records.  Be a member of the Association and abide by its policies.  Access to internet, email, web, Computer savvy including using Word, Excel, Canva, Google Docs.  Access to internet, email, web, MS Word, MS Excel or equivalent.  Preferred experience in equine competitions, and customer service. Trainability and interest are more important than experience.
