Social Programs - Peer Support Volunteers

Down Syndrome Queensland

DSQ Social Programs are designed to allow members from all across Queensland the opportunity to build friendships, develop life skills, build independence & social skills.

Social Programs are our monthly events (Brisbane), our Challenge Weekends, New Year’s Eve Ball and online virtual events ( Dance Parties, Games night, Trivia nights and Karaoke & Talent Shows).

Examples of some events we have held in the past are:

  • Dinner and Bowling
  • Amazing Races
  • Theme Park Visits
  • Theatre Visits
  • Exhibitions The list goes on!! We change up the programs each month depending on what's on in the area and areas in of interest to our participants.

As a Peer Support Volunteer you will be providing support to our members through:

  • Communication support
  • Behaviour support
  • Emotional support
  • Assistance to Down Syndrome Queensland staff members when necessary
  • Some administrative responsibilities

Most importantly, the Peer Support Volunteer’s are responsible for ensuring that they encourage and support our members to participate in any way necessary.

The Peer Support Volunteer roles may best suit those applicants who may be interested in getting experience in the Community Services or Disability sector.

The applicant will also need to hold (or be willing to apply for) a current Blue card and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, of which our organisation can assist with if required. The applicant will also be required to attend an interview and undergo an induction session.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
