The volunteer Walk and Talk team members will contribute to Uniity’s broader aim to enrich lives through the power of friendship across generations. They will do this by working with a small team of like-minded individuals to coordinate and host monthly walks for people of all ages to connect socially. The walks will be approximately 30-40 minutes long, and will end in a café, where the conversation will continue.

Team member’s key responsibilities will be to:

  • help design the walks
  • welcome participants and get to know them
  • introduce participants to each other
  • ensure everyone can walk at a pace they find comfortable (abilities will vary)
  • encourage participants to attend other Uniity activities to increase their sense of belonging
  • provide feedback on sessions to their supervisor- including on attendance and anything of note they have gleaned from conversations with participants

Depending on the volunteer’s interests and skills, additional responsibilities may include:

  • taking photographs
  • a range of administrative tasks that do not need to be done on any set day/time
  • occasionally contacting participants informally e.g. to check how they are if they miss sessions

Uniity regards its volunteers as also being participants, with key benefits to them including improved senses of well-being, belonging, and purpose.

Requirements: Reasonable fitness, interest in others, active listening skills, a valid (less than 3 years old) Vulnerable Person-Related Employment check (Uniity can help obtain), and contact details of 2 referees (non-family members).
