The Ozanam Learning Centre (OLC) is a community centre based in Woolloomooloo where people can connect, learn, participate in activities and workshops, and access a wide range of supports. Our work aims to provide opportunities for inclusion and support for those who need it.

We provide creative programs such as art and music, health, well-being and recovery programs, personal development and living skills programs.

We have a small rooftop garden in which community members can plant and maintain a variety of plants with a focus on vegetables, fruits and herbs. (The gardening group aims to support some of the produce needs of our cooking groups.) We also maintain a garden bed in the Bourke Street Community Garden, a short walk away from the OLC.

We wish to engage the support of an experienced gardener who can guide and supervise our community members who participate in gardening to develop skills and engage with others. To do this role you need to have: • Gardening skills, with a focus on growing fruit, vegetables and herbs (for the OLC rooftop garden and Bourke Street Community Garden) and native plants (OLC rooftop garden) • A passion for gardening as a way of engaging with nature and encouraging sustainable and healthy lifestyles • Awareness of community garden and related community resources and events that link in with gardening and nature (with the aim of encouraging gardening participants to be included in the broader community) • Ability to encourage community members to share their gardening knowledge and skills • Ability to create a safe, welcoming environment for potentially vulnerable community members, and to encourage teamwork amongst gardening participants • Good listening skills, empathy and patience • Commitment to inclusive practice including support for community members from a range of cultural and other backgrounds • Experience working with people from marginalized or disadvantaged backgrounds
