The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Calvary Health Care Bethlehem.

Volunteer Guide provides a valuable service to the ongoing success of volunteering at Calvary Health Care Bethlehem and enhances our service to patients, visitors and the community.

Volunteer Guides play an important role in enhancing the service given at Calvary Kooyong by welcoming patients, residents and visitors, helping orientate them and answering or directing questions to the appropriate staff member. All volunteers are required to recognize and act in accordance with the Mission and Values of Calvary Health Care.

Training starts in December for guides to be ready to commence in January 2023. The volunteer guide program will be available between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, Monday to Sunday, with each day broken into 3 timeslots. If Bethlehem has played a part in your life or you would like to get back to volunteering and be involved at this historic time, we would love to hear from you!

Tasks include:

  • Welcome and greet staff, patients, residents and visitors to Calvary Kooyong
  • Guide or provide directions to patients, residents and visitors to assist them in getting to their destination
  • Provide information to patients, residents and visitors on the precinct and local amenities such as shops, cafeterias, rest rooms, taxis, car parking and public transport
  • Confidently communicate and work with staff to ensure the non-clinical and support needs of patients, residents and attending family/carers are met
  • Assist with general activities and tasks that support the Volunteer Service

Prerequisites and/or skills

  • Satisfactory completion of the interview process, referee checks, CrimCheck and all Calvary required training (including e-learning and practical modules)
  • Effective listening and clear communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of confidentiality and privacy needs
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to relate and engage with people with a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Ability to be compassionate and empathetic
  • Ability to undertake work with minimal supervision
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Have the physical abilities to undertake the duties in a safe manner
  • Availability and intention to complete minimum one shift per week
