Highett Bowls Club

About the role

Highett Bowls Club Inc is seeking a Treasurer to join the Board of Management on a Voluntary basis. The Treasurer is responsible for oversight of the club’s financial controls and records, as well as providing guidance around the club’s financial position, and associated administrative tasks.

Specific duties include:

  • Preparation of financial reports and helping with the annual budget
  • Advising the Board and supporting staff on matters of finance and administration of the organization
  • Issuing of membership fee notices and the collection of fees
  • Overseeing financial activity (income receipts, expenditure)
  • Managing the bank account and Xero as required
  • Managing payroll and employee entitlements (the club has one employee)
  • Occasional counting and banking of cash and issuing receipts (most activity is electronic)

A club volunteer is assisting with the entry of information into Xero.

It is important that the Treasurer has experience with Xero, sound financial management or bookkeeping experience, and knowledge of payroll, budgets and financial reporting. Previous board or treasurer experience would be highly valuable.

The club is currently in need of revitalisation post-COVID and several initiatives are underway with the support of volunteers in the local community. The club is looking for a volunteer Treasurer who can make a 6 or 12-month commitment to help keep the club operating well as the revitalisation initiatives get underway.

Note: This is a voluntary position with no stipend.

About Highett Bowls Club Inc

Highett Bowls Club was established in 1956 by returned servicemen and their families, and provides a friendly and welcoming environment for competitive bowlers, social bowlers, and the local community.

The club has two greens, off-street parking and a large clubroom facility with offices, a kitchen, licensed bar, and a large function space. The club currently has approximately 50 members, welcomes members and non-members to make use of the bar and attend public functions and bowls events, and hires out the venue and facilities for public and private events for an affordable fee.

The club is a not-for-profit incorporated association and has only one employee (the greens keeper). Club income sources include membership and bowling fees, bar sales, venue hire, sponsorship and grants.
