Volunteer Board Member Vacancy

Community Centres SA
Logo for Community Centres SA

Community Centres SA seeks nominations from suitably experienced persons with financial expertise to fill a recently vacated Board position. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has suitable accountancy qualifications and experience and with a sound working understanding of financial reports and who wishes to contribute to governance excellence at a Board level.

Community Centres SA is a highly respected Not for Profit leader in community development. Having led the Community Centre sector for nearly 40 years, we work to build capacity in our communities, helping them to solve tough problems like loneliness, anxiety, racism, unemployment, illiteracy and family breakdown.

We are a medium sized organisation with approximately 20 staff, approximately 12 different funding streams and an annual budget of approximately $2 million.

We do this through our advocacy, research, training and projects. We work for, and alongside, our caring 150+ community organisation members including Community Centres and Neighbourhood Houses who nurture the spaces and places that support community connectedness.

The primary role of the Board is to provide effective governance of the organisation. Board members approve and monitor the strategic direction, provide sound financial management and ensure statutory compliance, guiding and supporting the Chief Executive Officer.

WE ARE EAGER TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE WHO:

  • Have a passion for Diversity, Empowering Communities, Inclusivity and Addressing Social Isolation
  • Have experience and skills in financial oversight, planning, budgeting and reporting
  • Keen to share your own wealth of knowledge and experience with a creative and value driven Not For Profit (actually we like to think of ourselves as "For Purpose")
  • We particularly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders or people with a culturally or linguistically diverse background to apply

The Board meets bi-monthly and there is an expectation that the right candidate will attend six meetings a year. In addition, this Board member would take on the Treasurer role.

The Treasurer is responsible for general financial oversight, financial planning, budgeting and financial reporting. The Treasurer typically acts as an information and reference point for the Chairperson and other committee members: clarifying financial implications of proposals; confirming legal requirements; outlining the current financial status; and retrieving relevant documentation.

In return we offer opportunities to build your governance expertise and engage with community on issues that matter to them.

We invite you to give Kylie Fergusen, CEO of Community Centres SA a call and have a chat. We will then be able to provide you with all the details and a nomination form. Ph 8371 4622

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
