The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Servants Community Housing (SCH).

Servants Community Housing (SCH) runs 4 rooming houses for people needing a home. We offer safe and high standard accommodation with live-in House Managers. SCH operates four rooming houses in Hawthorn and Kew. Our residents are generally on Newstart or a Disability pension and have mental health or drug or alcohol issues. Our aim is to provide a safe, caring community as their home. We supply a cooked evening meal from Sunday to Friday nights. Our kitchen staff play an important role in the health and wellbeing of our residents. The primary role is to provide quality meals, delivered on time in a clean and hygienic manner, but they also provide a smiling and caring presence in our rooming houses.

The Menu is planned by our Kitchen Manager and all the ordering is also completed by the Kitchen Manager. All you need to do is come, cook, share your delightful meals with our residents, wash-up the dishes and go home.

There is a commercial Kitchen in each rooming house and cooking equipment. Meals are cooked for 28 residents.

Duties:

  • Prepare, cook and serve food in accordance with SCH's organisation Food Safety program
  • Clean kitchen and dining area after meal service
  • To complete tasks appropriately with the management team of House Manager's, other Servants staff and the residents

Skills and Attributes:

  • Experience in cooking for large numbers. Experience cooking in commercial kitchens

Desirable:

  • Food Safety certificate

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Knowledge and experience in cooking household meals
  • Ability to clean
  • Ability to follow recipes and procedures
  • Well-developed communication skills
  • Shows consideration, concern and respect for the feelings and ideas of others
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to show initiative

Note: You do not need to commit to volunteer for all shifts, but need to commit to at least one regular shift per week or fortnight for a 6 month period.
