Fijian Community Visitor, Chermside - Residential Aged Care
Wesley Mission QueenslandOur highly valued volunteer visitors help older people who feel isolated to become more connected. This resident has requested a male visitor who would like to play cards and chat on a Tuesday on Thursday morning. He would love to share memories from his early life in Fiji. We will guide you through the entire process.
As part of the federally funded Community Visitors Scheme, we are looking for friendly people who have an hour each week or fortnight to spend visiting isolated or lonely individuals living in an aged care facility.
To be a Community Visitor you must have:
- A genuine interest in working with older people
- Have good communication and listening skills
- Have empathy for lonely, socially isolated people
- Be able to be in contact regularly on an ongoing basis
The visits are relaxed and social in nature, where you might chat together, reminisce, play card games, have a coffee in one of the onsite cafes or go for a walk.
Being a Community Visitor is a wonderful opportunity to improve the quality of life of older people, develop a personal connection, and make new friends while gaining new skills and giving back to your community.
We look forward to hearing from you!
