The program

The WA Emergency Services branch of the Australian Red Cross works to reduce the impact and consequences of emergencies to the WA community. You will provide extra capacity to the Emergency Services Team by taking the lead on our social media platforms, through the creation and design of engaging media content i.e., creating visual and written posts, including story writing for social media, and developing a social media strategy that includes a calendar of media communications. You will assist in the scoping of new and innovative ways of connecting with our WA community.

The opportunity

This is a highly rewarding volunteer role that offers the opportunity to use your skills in social media to improve the lives of people and communities in times of vulnerability. You will be part of welcoming and enthusiastic team that values creativity. The social media volunteer will have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, advanced skills and knowledge using various social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram essential), and preferably a background in communications though this is not essential. You must have the ability to time manage and meet deadlines. Most importantly we are looking for someone with a positive ‘can do’ attitude who enjoys good humour, is creative and not afraid to think ‘outside the box’ and values working as part of a dynamic team. Commitment to Australian Red Cross and our core values are essential.

The Impact

As a Social Media volunteer, you will gain valuable experience in communications and messaging specifically for the Emergency Services Sector. Your assistance to the Emergency Services Team will have an impact on Red Cross volunteers, members, staff, and the larger community that provide services to help people to be better prepared, better connected to each other and more resilient when emergencies happen. Red Cross will ensure you have training and ongoing support on the role.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

Thank you for considering volunteering at Red Cross. We also have great career opportunities.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
