Hummingbird House Volunteer - Chermside

Hummingbird House is currently recruiting for volunteers! Volunteers are an integral part of the Hummingbird House team. They contribute in a multitude of ways, from helping with the day to day operation of the House, to supporting our fundraising events. Read on to see if you may be a good fit for our volunteer team.

Gardener / Groundskeeper

  • Shifts available seven days a week (Monday – Sunday)
  • Shift times vary between 7am – 4pm

The primary purpose of this role is to provide practical and physical support in maintaining the yard and gardens at Hummingbird House. You do not need formal horticultural or Gardening experience or training, if you simply love gardening and have learned knowledge then this role could be for you.


Housekeeping

  • Shifts available Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday
  • Standard shift time: 9am – 2pm (some flexibility available)

The primary purpose of this role is to provide invaluable support to the Hummingbird House Housekeeping team with some of the simple daily housekeeping tasks. This support allows our Housekeeping team to focus on the daily cleaning of guest rooms, family suites and daily washing.


In-House Care Support

  • Shifts available seven days a week (Monday – Sunday)
  • Standard shift times: 9am – 1pm, 1pm – 5pm and 5pm – 8pm (some flexibility available)

The primary purpose of this role is to provide non-clinical, practical supports to the clinical care team by caring for guests-in-care, siblings and/or family members within the hospice building. In-House Care Support volunteers provide support to guests who are in a stable condition under the direction of the nurse in charge and the guidance and supervision of nursing staff. They will also provide respite for parents by offering support of siblings through the facilitation of activities for and with them. Additional support provided by the role extends to the broader wellbeing of the care floor, and house. This will include tasks such as general resetting and tidiness of communal area’s in the house, including the dining and lounge rooms, the art and craft space, teen retreat and back patio area. Finally, this role will provide support as required to the kitchen and housekeeping staff.


Kitchen Assistant

  • Shifts available seven days a week (Monday – Sunday)
  • Standard shift time: 5pm – 8pm

The role is to assist the kitchen staff at the end of the day by serving the dinner they have prepared, engaging with the families in the dining room, tidying and cleaning the kitchen, running the evening dishes through the commercial dishwasher and resetting the dining and breakfast bench area at the end of the shift. This role plays an important role in resetting the heart of the House ready for the next day. Volunteers in this role require an appreciation of the importance of cleanliness and hygiene for kitchen and dining room operations.


Reception / Administration

  • One role available
  • Shift available Monday 9am – 1pm or Tuesday 1pm – 4pm

The primary purpose of this role is to provide reception and administration support for the Front Office team. In this role volunteers will undertake reception and administration duties such as receiving deliveries, filing, scanning and storing of guest’s medical chart on discharge.


Requirements for volunteer roles:

  • Able to commit to one shift per week for a 12-month period
  • Attend volunteer interview and volunteer training
  • Have or apply for NDIS Disability Worker Card and Working with Children Check
  • Complete post training requirements
  • Provide evidence or receive immunisations for certain vaccine-preventable diseases as required by Queensland Health

Volunteer interview and training: For this round of recruitment you must be available to attend the following:

  • Volunteer interview: Tuesday 6 September, 9am – 12pm
  • Volunteer training: Tuesday 20 September, 4pm – 6.30pm
  • Volunteer training: Friday 23 September, 9am – 3pm.
