Down Syndrome Queensland Camp - Peer Support Volunteers

Down Syndrome Association of Queensland

DSQ Challenge Weekend Camps are all about having a go and trying your best, and encouraging our young members with Down syndrome to develop in all aspects of their life. The aim of these weekends have always been to ensure that the experience is as meaningful, positive, and safe as possible for everyone involved. There are a range of instructor-led activities designed to challenge our members, but we also incorporate elements such as the talent show and the disco night. The Peer Support Volunteers will be assigned to a small group of 3 or 4 “Challengers” as their Group/Team Leader for the weekend.

The Peer Support Volunteer roles may best suit those applicants who may be interested in getting experience in the Community Services or Disability sector. The Peer Support Volunteer may be required to undertake the following duties: • Communication support • Behaviour support • Emotional support • Support and encouragement to allow the young person to participate in activities in any way necessary

The applicant will also need to hold (or be willing to apply for) a current Blue card and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, of which our organisation can assist with if required. The applicant will also be required to attend an interview and undergo an induction session.
